Art Can Engage the Public in Social Issues and Generate Community Debate Our 100% Community initiative uses social media to encourage what some communities call “great conversations” – a place where people share ideas, insights, concerns and agree to disagree with respect.
While our work focuses on implementing evidence-based projects that will strengthen the quality of our key family and youth-serving agencies, we wish to acknowledge the power of art to generate public discourse and courageous conversations. It may be that socially-engaged art promotes a particular community agency’s innovation or a series of neighborhood talks on preventing ACEs and maltreatment.
Art is the heart of a community. The more we engage our young and young-at-heart in socially-engaged art, the more we encourage imaginative solutions to problems once thought unsolvable.
